CENSUS.

POPULATION OF THE COLONY. WELLINGTON, June 25. A summary of the enumerators' figures in connection with the recent census have been made by the Registrar. From this it appears that the oolony has a population, exclusive of Maoris, of 890,415, as against 772,719 on Maroh" 31st, 1901. The numerical increase is thus roughly ascertained to be 117,696, or 15 25 per cent, for the five years, as against an increase of 69,389 between 1896 and 1901, at the rate of 9.86 per cent. With the Maori population and the figures for Cook's and other islands, the population is anticipated to be shown as 946,000.
