A SERIOUS ASSAULT.

A woman named Maria Koaina Eleanor! Mielsoh ; was admitted to the Wellington Honpital on Saturday evening suffering from a daugerous wound on her head.
It appears tbiat she bad recently prosecuted ber husband, Hans Max Milsoh, for assault, and obtained a separation order. .Jhey met, however, on Saturday night, and appeared to be on friendly terms. They Jeffc Mielsoh's lodgings together, and a few minutes later the woman's screams were beard and Bhe was found lying insensible, with her head split opeu. A bloodstained axe was lying near the spot. Mielsoh had disappeared.
The woman's oondition is critical. Mrs Mielsoh is about 50 years of age. She was formerly a Mrs Cullen and lived in Masterton. She has a grown-UT) family. Mielsoh is only 32, and is a wharf labourer. He had only been married four months. MIELSUH ARRESTED. ATTEMPTS TO OUT HIS THROAT. The Constable stationed at the Upper Hutt this morning saw a man riding through the township on a bioycle, who answered the description of Mielsoh, who is wanted by the police on a charge of violently assaulting his wife. The man said his name was Romer and denied that he knew anything of Mielsoh. He was, however, arrested on suspicion, and lodged in 'the lock-up. Shortly after the man was found with a gash in his throat and wrist. He had lost a lot of blood, and was brought into the Wellington Hospital for treatment, He is the man wanted.
