HOME RULE RESOLUTIONS.
Received May 30, 9.30 a.m. -LONDON May 29. Mr Runcimau, replying to a question in tbe House of Commons, whether, inasmuch as the Commonwealth House of Keprefientatives' Home rule motion was printed as a Parliamentary paper, the resolution passed at the Sydney meeting on the 24th aud at other gatherings held in repudiation would be officially issued, stated that Lurd Elgin was unable to present Parliament with any resolutions not forwarded by the Guveruor-General. (The Federal Parliament last session passed resolutions in favour of Home Rule for Ireland. In March Lord Elgin reported that the resolutions had been submitted to King Edward, who expressed hia appreciation of the loyal sent J ments contained therein. In January L\>rd Northcote, Gcvernor-General of Australia, was waited upon and asked to transmit a petition against the resolutions of the Federal Parliament, but ho declined to do so on the around that the petition comprised matter of a contraversial nature. At a meeting held in Sydney last week, under the auspices of the Orange bodies,a petition to the King wa3 adopted declaring that the Home Rule resolutions recently adopted by the Federal Parliament did not represent the opinion of the people of Australia. Mr Reid was the principal speaker at the meet ing). LABOURERS OF IRELAND BILL. Received May 30, 9.30 a.m. LONDON, May 29. Mr Bryce's Labourers of Ireland Bill, providing four quarter-million loans on land purchase terms, enj abling County Councils to erect 25,000 cottages, was read a first time in the House of Commons. Towards the annual interest £22,300 will be derived from Irish sources, besides £35,000 from rent, and £28,000 annually from the Exchequer grant, leaving £23,000 to be borne by rates. CONVENT LAUNDRIES. Received May 30, 11.11 p.m. - LONDON, May 30. Sir Henry Oampbell-Bannermdn has hinted at the likelihood of a Bill being introduced next year dealing with convent laundries.
