WANGANUI CAVALRY CORPS.
A RB-UNION. WANGANUI, May, 23. The member of the old Wanßanai Cavalry Corps, who served in the 60'b, held a re-union to-aay. In the afternoon the veterans assembled tat the looal rifle range and participated in a friendly teams matoh, the distance being 200 yards. Colonel Sommerville's team defeated a team oaptained hy John Handley, Frizes for the highest scores were won by M. Marr (Alexandra Lanoers, 1864,) and T, D. Commina (Finimore's Troop, 1867) each with a score of 26, and Walter Armstrong (Cameron's Troopi 1865) with a soore of 25. Considering the men had not shot for years, and bad to use unfamiliar modern arms, the scores throughout were creditable. Cummins woo the Carbine Championship of New Zealand in 1871. iu the evening a smoke concert was held, at whioh . many interesting reminiscences of the old fighting days were recounted. Among the many apologies received from comrades resident in different parts of the colony, was a lengthy and historically reminiscent letter from Major Noake. The gathering was a complete success, and it was deoided to try and make it an annual affair. Colonel Sommerville presided.
