DEATH OP A RAILWAY SHUNTER. DUNEDIN, May 20. At the inquest touching the death of William James Mearns, a railway shunter, who was killed by a truck passing over him while engaged in a flying shunt in the railway yard, the evidence showed that Mearns was trying to push the waggons apart when his hand "slipped and he fell between the waggons and the four wheels passed over him. The jury returned a verdict that death was purely accidental, no blame being attached to anyone. The directors -of the pemetual trustees estate and agency company report a profit for the year of £2,093. They recommend a dividend of per cent, placing £I,OOO to the reserve fund, and carrying forward £1,272.
