NEWMAN.
(From Our Own Correspondent;. 5 Monday. On Friday evening a farewell sooial was tendeied by Jfche residents of the district to Miss Avison. During the evening Mr Oalton, Chairman of the Newman School 1 Committee, presented Miss Avison, ' on behalf of the settlers, with a > solid silver 01 uet. In making the presentation Mr Oalton referred to Miss Avison's many sterling qualities. Mr Bradstock, headmaster of • the Rongokokako Sohool, replied on behalf of Miss Avison. Mr Auder son, head teacher of the Newman School also paid a tribute to Misß Avison's capabilities as a teacher. Songs were sang by Miss Avison and Messrs Bradstock, Calton, and Logden. A number of selections Were played by an orchestra composed of Miss Avison (piano), Mr Oalton (flute), and Master Calton (violin). Banning was kept up till an early hour in the morning, the music being supplied by Mr Ogden. Mr T„ P. Keam was. M.O. Befreshments were provided by the ladies..
