COURSING.
THE WAIRARAPA CLUB. FIRST DAY. The May meeting of the Wairarapa Coursing Club opened on tne Showgrounds, yesterday, under very adverse weather conditions. Drizzling rain prevailed during the forenoon, and showers fell in the afternoon. This fact greatly militated against the attendance, only £6 14s being taken at the gate. Those who braved the elements were reward ed with a good day's coursing. Though there Were a few "kills" early in the day, the hares ran well, and the sport was interesting and ex citing, especially in the Cup. The wina were rather easy in the Maiden Stake, but keen competition is expected to day. The arrangements for the meeting were well carried out by the club's secretary, Mr Jas. Cairns, assisted by an energetic committee. The first and second rounds of the Cup and the first round of the Maiden were decided, with the following results:— WAIRARAPA CUP. First Round. The meeting will be continued today when the following dogs will meet in the third round of the Cup: —Derby Day meets Diamond Bob Honesty meets ' Housegirl, Street Arab meets The Marquie, Lobelia a bye. . In the second round of the Maiden Stake the courses will.,be as follow: —Nine of Diamonds meets Dusty Miller, Olive Goldsmith meets Hoopiron, Iris paeets Stringey Bark, Rosemary meeta Pretty Polly; Tutanekei meets Grey Steel, Redfern meets Port Arthur, Inapan meets Valley's Pride, Loyalist meets Plaidie, Bobtail meets Maori Boy, Paddy Whaok meets Pirate.
