MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING. Tbe ordinary meeting of the Maafcerton Borough Council was held last 1 evening. The iM ay or presided, and there we p e also J. H. Pauling, J. Elliott, i<\ W. Temple, W. ajorris, J. C. Ewington, E. G. Eton, B. Feist, and K MoEwen. An apology for absence was received from Or T. G. Hoar.
Mr U. T. Wood, or, behalf of the Masterton Presbyterian Church, wrote applying for the payment of £IOO in oonneotion with the section of land takeu for the formation of Hessey Street. The money was authorised to be paid. The Secretary of the North Wairarapa Henevolent Society wrote asking if the Council would be prepared to extend the drainage to tbe Keuaii-Solway Home if the Trustees undertook to pay the interest on the cost of the work. The Town Clerk was instructed to enquire as to the number of .000sumerb and the amount of rates there would be available. The Engineer was instructed to prepare an estimate of the cost of the work. The Rev. Dean MoKenna waited on the Council, and asked that tbe Council undertake as soon as possible tbe work of clearing and putting culverts into tbe mill stream so aa to prevent the Convent grounds from beiag flooded in tbe winter. Other properties also suffered to some extent through the overflowing of the stream. The Mayor.stated that thia was one of tbe most urgent works on the loan schedule, and it would be put in hand as soon as possible.
Mr 0. D. King waited on the Council, and urged tbe making of a footpath in Bunny's Road. The Mayor said that this work was also included in the loan, schedule, and would receive attention aa soon aa possible. ,
-A report was submitted stating that a committee, consisting of the Mayor and Crs Ewiugtou, Eton, Morris and Elliott, had visited tbe Park and inspected the Waipona River at the site of the proposed stop-bank and also the ten aores. The committee decided—(l) That the stop-bank .be ereoted in accordance with the plans already prepared by the Engineer; (2) that tbe present bank at tbe old bank feuCe be continued along the eastern side of the Waipuua River along the boundary of the ten aores; (3) that trie material, be taken from the ten aores where it is proposed to excavate for the baths and ornamental water. . The' report was adopted.
Or Eton brought under the Council's notice the state of the footpath in Dixon Street, between Mr Hooper's residence and Bannister Street. He asked that in view, of the proposed widening of the street, that a few loads of gravel b« spread to make the road safer for pedestrian traffic. The Mayor intimated that he a would instruot the Engineer to see to the matter.
