CHINESE ON THE RAND. Reoeived May 15, 9.30 a.m. CAPETOWN, May 14, The representative committee of enquiry appointed by Lord Milner to investigate the system of controlling the Chinese coolies recommends the erection of barbed wire on distant boundaries, the strengthening* of European guards with a view of acting as a check on the Chinese police and the prohibition of the traffic in leave permits. No coolies have yet applied for repatriation. ATTEMPTING TO DYNAMIIE FARMSTEADS. Received May 15, 11.5 p.m. CAPETOWN, May 15i Owing to Chinese, attempting to dynamite farmsteads, General Botha has written to Sir R. Solomon (At-torney-General) and the Lieutenant: Governor (Sir A. Lawleyj stating that unless a non-recurrence is assured a deputation will go to England to urge the immediate repatriation of all the Chinese. |
