EKETAHUNA.
(Fxom Oar Own Correspondent.) * The Tawatai toll gate on themain road that oonneots Eketahuna and Alfredton ia likely at no distant date to be a bone o£ contention between the Eketahuna and Masterton Coanty Councils. If, as stated at the meeting of the former council held on Saturday, the loan in connection with which the gate was reoted would mature in two years, it is rather premature at tbe present time to seriously entertain any idea of abolishing the gate. It is reagonable to assume that the tolls oolleoted by tbe Masterton County Council at the gate are sufficiently large to pay all working expen«es in connection with its maintenance, and J;o leave a fair margin of profit, tbat undoubtedly goes towards paying intreeßt ou the capital invested. The Eketahuna County Council are to be commended for aoting on tbe suggestion of their chairman, Mr Mosa, to allow this matter to remain in obeyance pending further and more substantial information.
