RESULTS OP SATURDAY'S MATCHES. Carterton 6, Maaterton 3. Red Star 12, Greytown nil. Masterton 11. 9, Red Star 11. 3. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. MASTERTON v. CARTERTON. On the Recreation Ground, at Carterton, on Saturday, the Maaterton and Carterton Seniors played their first championship match of the season. 00-iaiderable interest was manifested in the match, and there was a good attendance of the public. The around waa in good order, and a fast game resulted. The Masterton team were repre senfced by the foil owing:—Pull back, Walsh; threequaiters, Pay ton, J. O'Leary, Hatch; fivo - eighth, P. O'Leary; halfback, Logan; wings, Marchant and Gray; forwards, Jenkins, Mackellar, Lyall, Greenbank, Osborne, Dusgan, Ring.

The game proved a willing one from the start. Jn the first spell the play was very even, and mainly confined to the forwards. The only score was a penalty goal kicked by Mason for Carterton. When half-time sounded the score stood—Oarfcertou, 3 points; Masterton, nil. On resuming it waa expected that Masterton would equalise matters, but so well did the local forwards play that ueither side could claim any great advantage. About half-way through the spell the Carterton backs inaugurated a passing rush, and eventually Orawlev scored. No goal resulted. Carterton, 6 points; Masterton, nil. Masterton rallied, and made the game very fast. They attacked and worked the ball down to the Carterton line. The visitors were awarded a free kick in front of the Uarterton goal, and the hopes of the Masterton supporters rau high. But J. O'Leary, usually a very sure kicker, failed in his attempt to pilot the bail between the posts, and Masterton were still six points behind. Nothing daunted, the visitors rallied, and the forwards did some excellent work. Gradually through the aid of Mackellar, Duggan, Greenbauk and Jpnkius, the ball was worked towards the Carterton line, and the visitors' efforts were rewarded by Mackellar getting over the line and sooring. No goal resulted. The whistle shortly afterwards sounded, leaving Carterton the victors by 6 points to 3 pointß. Mr L. Williams was referee.

The ternns were evenly matched. Carterton beat the visitors in scrum work, and on the liue-out. Duggan and Mackellar were the best of the Masterton forwards, and they were ably supported by the rest of the oack. The Masterton backs did not play their usual good game. 3. O'ljeary was the pick of them. Crawley and Mason were the best of the Carterton backs. While the forwards all pJayed a good solid game. \

GREYTOWN v. RED STAR. The Greytown and Ked Star teams met at Greytown on Saturday. Tho , ground was in good order, though somewhat "greasy," and there was a fair attendance of spectators. The following were the teams: Greytown. Fullback, Morris; threequarters, 0. Rogers, JB. Fuller, McFarlane; five-eighth, P. Rogers (captain); halfbaok, Stevens; wings, J. Workman and E. Beard; forwards, Wiokens, Hastings, Raisen, Perkins, Wines, Jury (2). Red Star. Fullbaok, Walker; threequarters, MoLachlan, Wrigley (captain), Welch; fire-eighth, Darville; halfback, O'Oonnell; wings, F. Clarke and & Warner; forwards, C. Clarke, 0. McKenzie, Templeton. Hunt, Scorrar, Fulton, Dunstall. The Red Stars won the toss, and played with tho sun at their backs. Immediately after the kickoff Greytown attacked, but Wrigley and MoLaohlan relieved with good kions. Beard, Wickens and Workman broke away with the ball, but Rood forward play by Templetbn, Dunstall, Seo-rar and MoKenzie carried the play to the Greytown territory. A free kick relieved, and play centred. A passing rush between Stevens, P. Rogers and C. Rogers saw Gieytown attack, but Wrigley relieved. A forward rush headed by Wickens, Workman, Beard and Raiaen resulted in the Stars being forced down. A good kick by MoLachlan and a fast follow up by the same player removed play for a time to the Greytown twenty-tivea. A smart passing rush between Stevens, P. Rogers, Fuller and C. Rogers centred play. Long kioks by Wrigley and MoLaohlan resulted in Greytown being eventually forced down. A fast folI low up by Scorrar saw Greytown forcie down agaiu shortly after. The Stars attacked, some clover work being done by O'Oonnell and Darville. P. Rogers shifted play to 1 the centre, but the Star forwards broke nway and a fast piece of play saw Welch, Soorrar and Wrigley over the Greytown line, the latter snoring first blood for the visitors. No goal resulted. Red Star, 3 points; Greytown, nil. Templeton, Hunt, Warner and MoKenzie carried play into tho Greytown territory, but a free kick relieved the pressure. A passiu* rush between the Star backs was turned into a dangerous attaok by Greytowi, bus j Walker relieved. A passing rush between Stevens, P. Rogers and 0. Rogers suw the latter nearly get over the Star line, being thrown out at the corner. Fulton, Templeton, Hunt and F. Clarke carried play to the oentre, where from a sorum O'Oonnell passed to Darville. The latter made a goo.l run and/transferred the ball to Wrigley, who made for the line. He beat three men before he was tackled by Morris. The latter was unable to stop Wrigley's progress. Though the collision brought the latter down he was up again smartly and over the linn. No goal resulted. Red Star, 6 points; Greytown, nil- Half-time sounded shortly after with play in the centre. On resuming Greytown attacked,

and 0. Rogers nearly goi; over the Star line. Play centred for a time, and then a faat follow up by Tempiefcoa saw the latter soore. The kick at goal again failed. Nearly the whole of the spell the Stars attaoked, the forwards doing excellent work, while the backs got on 83veral pass* ing rushes which were spoiled through the ball being too greasy to hold. Towards the end of the game Wrigley scored his third try, bat the kick at goal wbs resaltless. The whistle sounded with the score standing—Rod Star, 12 points; Greytown, nil. Mr E. Moiieozie was referee, and Messrs T. MoMester and M. Maguire were lino umpire?. The victory of the atara was mainly due to the fine work uf the forwards, coupled with the splendid play of the backs. V\ rigley wae by far the best back on the ground. His kicking, running and collaring were a treat to watcb. O'Oonnell, at half, put in good work, cleverly iuauguratiug a number of passing rushes. Darrille's play was good all round. Towards the end of the game he made a flue run from half-way right up to the full-back before being collared. McLachlan, Welch and Walker put in Borne solid defensive work. The forwards all played well, their following up being particularly good. McKenzie and 0. Clarke did fin© work in the front rank. P. Rogers, Stevens and 0. Rogers played capital games amongst the backs for Greytowu. The forwards played well, too, but lack of form was very notiuoabla The line work of Wiokens was splendid. Had the Greytowu players had more form on the game would undoubtedly have baeu much closor.

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. MASTERTON 11. v. RED STAR 11. The Masterton and Red Star Juniors met on the Park Oval on Saturday afternoon, and the game resuled in a win for the former team by 9 points to 3 points. For the winners O'Neill, Rawsou and Prow each scored a try, and V. Williama kicked a penalty goal for the Stars. On Saturday the Carterton School defeated Masterton School by 17 points to 5.
