CIRCUS AND MENAGERIE. Bostock and Wombwell r 8 menagerie and circus, which opens iu Masterton tc-night, was a treat for the Londoners a century ago, for it started in tbe world'B metropolis in 1805, and at tbe present day a great great grandson of one of *be original proprietors is closely associated with the exhibition. Tastes alter ia 100 years, and to saib the times the present firm has added a first-class variety entertainment, and has engaged artists of worldwide fame in the different capacities, who make a couple of hours or so pass in a very enjoyable manner. The present tour of Australasia has, so far, proved a remarkable money-making peregrination, says an exohange, large audiences filling the capacious tents at each performance. The menagerie is a show in itself. It is a magnificent zoological collection, and includes many rare animals not found in any Australian Zoo, the moat valuable of whioh is a chimpanzee, which looks so much like a human bein>s that the orowd are never tired of watching it. The entertainment begins in the menagerie tent, where tbe animal trainer, Herr Hohenadhl, enters tbe lion aud tiger cages and I puts the animals through a number lof exercises. Passing into a more i spacious marquee, with comfortable seats and chairs, the visitors are introduced to the variety performers, and of these it mpy be said at once that eaoh individual performer will be found a postmaster iu hie particular line. Notwithstanding the expense incurred iu bringing the entire show to Mastertou the priue of admission have been fixed at tbe low rate of 4s, 3s, and 2s. There will be an afternoon pernor maaoe to-morrow, at 3 p.m.
