NEW ZEALANDER'S TOUR FOR A £2,000 WAGER.
A young New Zealander, Mr H&rry Carter, who left Wetlington, New Zealand, on January 21st, 1902, on a walkingtour round the world, has had some curious experiences. He passed through Dunkirk recently, Bays the London Daily Mail, and be hopes to reach Copenhagen about the end of April. JHe has visited nearly every country, with the exception of Belgium, Holland, Germany and Denmark, and when he has completed his tour he will receive £2,000. He must walk the whole way, .and is prohibited from joining any society from which lie might reoeive.assistance. He can neither beg, borrow, nor steal. He was allowed "Sd, with which he bought four copies of the Wellington Post, and a packet of pins. Having made a costume with tbpse materials he explained to the people standing by the objects of bis tour, and collected FUlHoient money to buy olotbes. He has frequently appeared in theatres, and the audiences have contributed to his expenses. Twice in Paraguay he was snot at, in Mexico he was laid .up with fever, in Russia and Turkey he was frequently arrested as a spy. He walks about 40 miles a day, and has closely examined the educational systems in the different countries, Jue forwards reports every day to .a number of New Zealand journals. He is now wearing his 28th pair of boots. He says that the City of London Police and the Royal Irish Constabulary in County Galway are the finest-looking men he has seen in the course of his travels.
