ROBBERY.
AUCKLAND, April 17.
A case of assault and robbery took place last eveuingljat Ceinotery Gully, wbich. since the removal of tbe late foot-bridge, tha.s borne a bad reputation in respect to deeds of violence. The victim on this occasion was Mr A. 0. Roberts, music tetcher, who, on goinc down the stops leading to the gully, passed betweeu'two well-dressed men who 7?ere k soiokiug cigars. Hardly hnd be passed them when he felt his coat grasped at the back, and as he swung round an effort wua made to pull the coat up and envelop his head. Oneiof his arms was gripped, and a hand shot round to grasp at his gold albert, idealising the situation, Mr Roberts exeited himself to such good purpose that he broke away, but with his coat ripped up to tbe neck at the back and his watchcbain in the hands of one of the footpads. The chain broke, leaving a valuable gold watch in Mr Roberts' pocket.
