THE NORTHERN APPROACH.
QUESTION AGAIN DISCUSSED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL.
Mr R. Browu, on behalf of the Mayor (Mr J. A. ttonall), waited on the Masterton County Council, at their meeting on Thursday last, and asked the Council to take steps to improve the northern approach at the Waipoua bridges. It was generally admitted that the question was one of great importance, and he suggested that the Engineers be instructed to prepare. plana for the work. The Chairman stated that his views on the matter were that the Borough and County Councils should appoint an engineer to orepare plana for the work, as ho thought it was a waste of time instructing their respective Engineers to du the work. When tnat was done, hj% stated that the ooat of the work should be apportioned among the various local bodies in Masterton. He thought the work would cost a great amount, and he did not soa why the remote ridings of the Council should ho called upon to bcr.r the coat of b3autifyiug Masterton. Cr Guild intimated that it was not tho County Council that was agitating fur tho improvement, but tho Borough Council, and he moved fc!uifc Mr Brown bo informed that thu Boruugi.l Engineer should ba instructed ( ta draw up plans for the work that would suit tho Borough purposes, and submit them to the County Council.
