It is reported from Greytown, Natal, that Kaffirs attacked aDd cut off a portion of the field force sent against Barabaata. Five of the latjer were wounded. Subsequent messages state that the Impanza force was compelled to retire upon Grey town after heavy fighting. Manseil's force rescued the women and children at Keate's Drift, and arrived at Greytown, after three police had been killed and six wounded in a running fight for six miles. The police eaoorted the tvoireu and children to Keate's Drift, where a laager was"formod. Bambaata attacked the laager and besieged it for a whole night. Relief arrived in the morning. Only a, few hundred men defend Greytown. Stroi'g reinforcements will arrive to-morrow. A laager has been formed. It is unlikely the town will be attaoked, fcue rebels preferring ragged country.

A GALLANT RESCUE. Received April 6, 11.57 p.m. PIETERMAKITZBURG, April 6. While Bambnata's followers were looting thejhotel, the whites and twc ladies fled to Keate'a Drift. After rescuing those at the laager Captain Munsell's foroe of 150 tried to return to Greytown. Bambaata, by means of an ambuscade near Impanza, attacked at sundown the vanguard under Major Dimmick with riflea and assegais. The police coolly flred, killing many, and keeping the natives at bay until Botha's Farm was reached at midnight. The nature of the country prevented flankers being tbrqwn out. The Kaffirs got between the vanguard, who turned and fought their way baok. Then the Kaffirs attacked the flanks, getting quite olose owing to the dense bush. The ladies behaved with great noarage, surrendering their carriage to the dead and wounded. The natives haoked the dead bodies of Sergeants Brown and Harrison and two troopers, but the column rescued them, and buried the remains. Pour troopers were also wounded. Major Dimmiok and Trooper Folker have been recommended for the Viotoria Cross, through returning at great peril to rescue Trumpeter Milton who was dangerously wounded. REBELLION NOT CONNECTED WITH EXECUTION OF NATIVES. Received April 5, 8.46 a.m. PIETERMARITZBURG, April 5. J Sir William Arbuokle, President of the Natal Legislative Council, in an interview, declared that Bambaata's rebellion was not connected with the execution"of the twelve natives for the murder of Inspeotor Hunt. He had probably not heard of them when he abducted his uncle.

EMPLOYING IMPERIAL TROOPS TO CRUSH NATIVE RISING. Received April 5, 8.46 a.m. LONDON, April 5. The Westminster Gazette urges tbe Government to consider the expediency of employing Imperial troops from Maritzbarg instantly to orusb the native rising.
