GENERAL SATISFACTION AT THE COLONY'S VICTORY. THE EXECUTIONS TO BE PROCEEDED WITH. Received April 2, 8.18 a.m. PIETERMARITZBURG, April 1. There is general satisfaction in Natal at the colony's victory, but no exultation. The Ministry baa withdrawn its resignation. The execution of the nat ives will take place at Richmond on Monday, in th 9 presence of representatives of every important native district in Natal. MORE press criticisms. Received April 2, 8.9 a.m. LONDON, April 1. The Daily Telegraph denounces Lord Elgin's craven device to cast the blame on Sir H. E. McCallum. The Daily News is not sure the country will share Lord Elgin's confidence in the adequacy of the trial. The natives ought to have been tried by civil process. The discontent of the natives, says the News, is routed in real grievances. The Tribune declares that as the consequence of the colony's native polioy will fall on the Mother country, she cannot entirely surrender her right of criticism and veto. CAPETOWN, April 1. The Natal Mercury says Lord Elgin's recantation amply justices the protests made in Natal. If lnspeotor Hunt's murderers were not executed, *-be life of every white man, woman and child in the colony wouli be endangered. LONDON, April 1. The Standard says that the bittei resentment felt in South Africa against Lord Elgin's interference in the Natal incident compelled the Government to withdraw every pretence of dignity. DENIED THAT THE GOVERNMENT "CLIMBED DOWN." Reoeived April 2, 9.33 p.m. LONDON, April 2. Sir H. H. Fowler, speaking at Willenhall, denied that the Government climbed down. Lord Elgin's aotion was purely an administrative one.

Dr Jameson, in a Bpeeoh at Qrabamstown, declared that he entirely sympathised with Natal, and he would have aoted similarly himself. He had never known the Imperial veto to be so unjustly exercised.
