The formation of a ratepayers' association is receiving attention in Gore. Mr John Kirkcaldie has been reelected ohairman of directors of the Manawatu Railway Company. It is reported, says the News, that a Southland resident has just received advice thac through the death of a relative in England he has fallen heir to a sum approximating £30,000. Mr F. Pirani has again joined the ranks of the newspaper proprietors ofthecolouy. He has purchased the Feilding Star, which circulates in a district where the ex-member for Palmerston is well and popularly kncwn. A party of deer-stalkers will leave Timaru next week for the North Island, having arranged to try the country in the vicinity of Masterton, where excellent sport among the fleet-footed deer is s-iid to be obtainable. Says the Christchurch Press: "The sale of tramway time-tables since the intioduotion of the change has been a success. Over 500 were sold on Saturday. The new departure promises to result in the saving of about £l5O per annum."
