Reeves, High Commissioner for New Zealand, is convinced that it is most unlikely that Germany will purchase the Island. | STATEMENT BY MR DEAKIN. Reoeived March 29, 8.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, March 29. Mr Deakin, the Federal Premier says nothing is known by the British Government respecting the projeoted sale.of Fanning Island. A PROCLAMATION. Reoeived March 30, 12.38 a.m. SYDNEY, Maroh 29. The Fiji Government Gazette, whioh has been received by mail, contains a proclamation resuming certain lands in Fanning Island for the purposes of a Pacifio Cable Board.
