VOLUNTEER NOTES.
On Saturday last Lieutenant MoKillop and Sergeant-Major Collier, of the Masterfcon Mounted ttifles, journeyed to Tinui for the purpose of drilling the newly-estab-lished local troop. In apite of the inclement weather, there was a muster of fourteen, and the parade was held in Mr R. E. Maunsell's woolshed, kindly lent by him far the oocasion. The men were exercised in recruit drill, with and without arms, and they acquitted themselves very creditably, whioh is mainly due to be efficient manner in whioh Corporal Campbell, carries out his duties. In the opening the visiting officers delivered a lecture to the corns on military discipline and duties, and the address was listened to with great attention. On Sundny the troop attended the Harvest Festival thanksgiving service. The Masterton Mounted Rifles are contemplating shortly changing their uniform. The new tunics will probably be of a blue material, with seel epaulettes. It is expected by the Mastortou Mounted Rifles to have twenty-five men under canvas at the manoeuvres at Pabiatua, during the Easter holidays.
