The Weliington-Hawke's Bay match was oommenced this morning in cold and unpleasant weather. The local team went in to bat, and at the close of the day's play had soored 409 for the loss of eight wickets. Towards this total Redgrave contributed 165 by vigorous hitting. He hit the bowlers indiscriminately. His score included four hits for si x and twenty-two fuurs. Weybourne soored 40, Laws 47, and Mahony 46 ' not out. The bowling and fielding of the visitors were loose and returns wild.
