FANATICAL MOUNTAINEERS.

Received Maroh 8, 7.37 a.m. PARIS, March 7. Owing to the fanatioal opposition of the mountaineers in the Upper Cevennes, the French Government has decided not to apply the inventory qlause of ttfe Act. It is also reported that the Government intends elsewhere to officially recognise the inventories taken yearly by mayors and oommuues and parish priests.

Reoeived March 8, 7.37 a.m. PARIS, March 7. In the French Chamber of Deputies M. Lookray advocated building only faat powerful cruisers. Admiral Bieuame declared that if Franoe spent thirteen million pounds yearty on large battleships alone, she would soon possess the strongest navy in the world.

THE GOVERNMENT'S ACTION CONDEMNED.

M. ROUVIEIR RESIGNS,

Received Maroh 9, 1.8 a.m. PARIS, March 8. The French Chamber of Deputies rejeoted the resolution approving of the Government's action in connection with the incident arising out ot the taking of the Churoh inventories. M. Rouvier, Minister for the Interior, has resigned, and M. Fallieres, President, has accepted his resignation.
