Recwived Marob 8, 7.37 a.m. LONDON, March 7. A meeting of the Unionist Freefood Club re-asserted its adherence to Preetrade and opposition to a general tariff and tax on corn. The Duke of Devonshire, the Presideut, was in the chair. The resolution is interpreted to mean a final ruDture between Mr Balfour and Mr Chamberlain.

POSTAL EMPLOYEES.

Receieved March 8, 7.45 a.m. LONDON, March 7. Unionists assisted Labour members to considerably widen the scope of the Committee which enquires into questions relating towages and position of the postal employees.

Received March 8, 8.40 a.m. LONDON, March 7. Mr Lloyd George, President of the Board of Trade, is enquiring into the possibility of compiling statistics of the home trade in the United Kingdom and the freight earnings of the mercantile marine.

Reoeived March 8, 9.52 p.m. LONDON, Maroh 8. In the House of Commons, Mr Lever's resolution in favour of the payment of members was adopted by 348 to 110 votes. Mr Kimber's amendment, affirming the undesirableness of voting any money on members' salaries, was negatived by 363 to 110 voters. Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman cordially agreed with the principle of payment, but he said there was no money at present to give effeot to this desirable improvement.
