CORRESPONDENCE.
POULTRY ASSOCIATION SECRETARY.
(To the Editor).
Sir,—Re your leader of tbe 21st
in reference to the above, I would like to make a few observations thereto. In the first place you state that the Association is not progressing satisfactorily. I beg to contra-
dict that statement. The Society was never in snob, a good condition as it is at tbe present time, financially and otherwise; and who have we to thank for it? I venture to say tbe "working" committee. You say that we should not confine pur Show to tbe town. We admit that; neither do we intend anysuob tbing. While endeavouring to foster and encourage tbe fancier in this town, we are doing our level best for other dietriots. You state that tbe greater part of tbe work fails upon the seo-
rotary. While giving all credit to him for doing bis best, it is only
fair to state tbat the bulk of the vork fell on the committee. We
fully expected, after the strenuous efforts put forth by the Association, that last year's Show would be tbe best ever held here. We are glad to
say it was, and tbat our anticipations were realised. Tbe secretary's remuneration, viz., £l2, is not large. We admit this; but if Mr Eaethope bad beld to the position for another year, and we came out with a balance on hand, 1 have no doubt that the Association would have given him more wages. However, 1 may add
tbat the committee are of the opinion (which is fully justified) that if a secretary was to t»llow himself three weeks in which to do the Association's work, tbat is eight hour days, the whole of it could be done in that time quite comfortably. Then I submit, if tbat is the case, four pounds a week is not afbad "screw." Again, Sir, if a secretary cannot get through bis work satisfactorily at four pounds a week, how is ha go-
ing to get through it at eight pounds
a week without extra help. I may < also state that a lot of the secretary's work was done by different
members of tbe committee at the
last Show. We a,repetition of tbat, and don't intend to have it.—"Honour to whom honour is due."—Yours, etc,
