POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK.

WELLINGTON, February 26,

The figures prepared by the Postal Department, at the instance of Sir Joseph Ward, show that ten years ago the number of accounts opened at the Post Office Savings Bank was 137,683, and at the end of 1905 the number was 276,066. Thi* shows that almost half the adult popu!ati6n had accounts in December last at the Bank. The deposits in 1895 numbered 217,393; last year, 509,112; an increase of 134.19 per cent. The sum of £2,794,056 was deposited in 1895, and in 1905 the deposits were £6,625,744, an increase of 137.10 per cent. The amount of withdrawals in the two years was £2.369,333 and £5,984,183, rescectively; and tbe v baiance to credit of depositors at the end of eaoh respective year was £3,395,543 and £8,662,093. , '
