THE ARBITRATION ACT.

LABOUR PARTY DISSATISFIED.

The Executive of the Labour Council has been instructed to report on-the desirableness of recommending the unions withdrawing their delegates from the Arbitration Court.

The Labour Party in the State has its baoK against the wall. Failing an immediate amendment of the Act, it is choucbt better to let the workers tight the employers as best they can.

Mackenzie's timber yard has been completely gutted. The Austral Box Company's factory adjoinine has also been destroyed. Dunns? the height of the fire u strong southerly wind sprang up. The scene of the outbreak adjoined Allan Taylor's large timber yards, and was surrounded by a number of other yards. Several vessels were also lying at wharves in the vicinity. There was every indication of a disastrous conflagration, but the men of the brigades, who turned out in full force, assisted by large detachments of bluejackets from various warships, suoceeded after a desperate fight in confining the Are to the two premises destroyed, thus effecting a splendid save Reoeived February 23, 10.59 a.m. SYDNEY, February 23.

Though the fire was prevented from getting hold of Taylor's yard, timber and fittings were damaged to the extent of £1,500. Munroe's wood turnery works at Eedfeni have also been destroyed by tire. The damage is estimated at £2,000. Considerable danger was experienced in getting vessels moored at wharves out of the fire zone into the stream.

While the fire was burning with tremendous fierceness a falling stack o? timber smashed a standpipe and interfered somewhat with the water supply. The fire was a splendid spectacle. The sky was lit for miles around the city, and an immense crowd congregated. The damage is estimated as in the vicinity of £30,000. It ia partially covered by insurance l .
