METHODIST CONFERENCE.

A LARGE GATHERING. DUNEDIN, February 22. The Methodist Oonterenoe of New Zealand lield its first meeting this evening in the Trinity Methodise *Ohuroh. There was a large attendance of representatives, both clerical and laymen. The Rev.-J. B. Newman Buttle presided, and delivered the Presidential address. He said there had been no burning questions during the year. He then reviewed at length the events of the year, and indicated that the question of an independent selfgoverning conference for New Zealand would be the most important matter that would come up. The President having been thanked for the address, the election of a new President was taken, and the Rev. T G. Brooke, of Mornington, was elected on the first ballot by 72 votes out of 115. The Kev. 0. H. Laws was re-elected secretary.
