THE STEAMER SCOT. « ' SYDNEY, February 17. Hope for the safety of the steamer Scot, bound from Mogi, in Japan, to Ocean Island, has been abandoned. It is supposed she foundered in a .typhoon in the China Sea shortly after leaving in November. THE AUSTRALIAN UNDAMAGED. Received February 18, 4.30 p.m. BRISBANE, February 1. The steamer Australian, after jettisoning some cargo, waß floated with the help of the Anarima, undamaged. PATENTS. FEDERAL f C OVERNMENU'S DECIoION. Received February 19, 12.18 a.m. SYDNEY, February 18. The Federal Government authorities have decided in regard to inventions patented in New Zealand, that it shall be open to obtain protection for them from the same date as protection is extended in New Zealand. Application must be made in Australia, within 12 months of the date of the New Zealand application.
