"IMPERIAL IMMIGRATION."

Mr O. 0. Beale, ex-President of the Australian Chamber of Manufacturers, read a paper entitjed "Imperial Immigration" before the Sooiety of Arts. He declared that the oversea colonies would concede preference to the Motherland and were calmly awaiting a response from Britain. He explained the stupendous productive possibilities of Australia, aud dealt with the need of the immigration of skilled manufacturers and a constant stream of men of the British race. While Australian workers would not welcome an excessire immigration calculated to reduce the status of living, they would heartily welcome those coming to help forward the Australian nation by introducing diversified occupation. Sir Westby Perceval oresided in the absence of Lord Elgin. The Agents-General were also present.
