CLEARING SALE. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held a clearing sale of Mr William Drewett's stock, in their Upper Hutt yards, on the lsf instant. There was a largo attendance of buyers and biddug was very spirited for all lota of both cattle and sheep. The following were prices realised:—Sound mouth- ewes 10s lid to lis 7d. 2-tootb ewes 14s 2d, 4 nnd G-tootb ewesl4s 3d, 2 tooth wetbnra 12a Id, 4 and 6-tooth wethers 13s lOd, woolly store lamba 8s 9rl, fall-mouth rams from £1 to 22s (3d, 4-year-old bullocks £4 10s to £4 13s, forward bullocks £5 Is, 3-year-old steers £4 Is, 2% year-old steers £3 As, yoailing steeis 34s yearling heifers34s, cows with calves at foot £3 Is, springing heifers £3 ss, yearliugs 3Cs.
STOCK SALE.
The New Zealand Loan and Mer- / cvoti'e Agency Co., Ltd., repoit at their monthly stock sale,at Pongaroa, on Friday—We had a full yarding of sheep of all classes. Good auality • ewes and strong Jambs sold roadily at sound rates, only the poor classes failing to sell. Cattle wero well represented, but met with slow sale, nearly every lot, however, changing bands before tho close of the day. Best ewes made 12s 6d, others 10s to 10s 6d, best lambs in the wool 10s 6d, others 10s 4d, 10s and 9s 6d, small 5s 6d, grown steers £1 10s, fat heifers £1 8s 6d, 2-year heifers 50s, 18 months 40s to 455, calves 12a to 18s, yearling steers 30s to 4 Us.
WOOL, SKIN AND HIDE SALES.
Tbe New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Wellington, report, under date 2nd inst, aafollows: —At to-day's sale we catalogued and sold about 40 bags wool, 1,300 sbeopskius, 280 hides and a aaautity of tallow and horsehair. There was tbe usual attendance of buyers competing eagerly for every lot. Fair prices were obtained for bag lots of wool, dry long-woolled skins, and pelts were a shade higher than last sales and green skins showed 0 substantial advance. Wo quote:— Skins: Merino and flue crossbred B%d to ooarse crossbred B%d to 9d, pelts from 7>' 2 'd to B%d, dead and damaged skins from 5%d to per lb, lamb skns from 7%d to 9J£d per lb, green pelts from 2s to 3h 9d, grnen lamb skins to 3s 7d. Wool: In bags, crossbred fleece to pieces from 4%d to 6>£d, locks 3>£d to 4d. Hides: Ox and cow, sound from to 6d. cut and damaged 3d to 5J4d, calfskins, sound from to 7%d damaged to 6j£d. Tallow: In casks, good mixed 21s 6d, boxes and tins from 14s t« 18s 3d, unrendered from 13s 6d to 14s per cwt. Horsehair sold well at late rates. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., Wellington, report, under date 2ud instant:—We offered today a quantity of wool, fadged and bags, 3,000 sk ins and 350 bides, also some tallow and horsehair. Tbe wool sold at full rates. Skins: Three was a good demand for skins with upward tendency, and all Jots were strongly com-pleted-for. We quote:—Merinos to 9%d,flne 9%d, ooarse B%d to 9d, dead skins 7)4d to Bd, short wools 7d, to B}£d, woolly pelts (green) 3s 9d to 4s 3d, bare pelts 2s to 2s lid, woolly lambs skins (green) 3s to 3s 9d, bare lambs pelts Is 9d. Tallow: Casks 20s 6d, tins 17s 6d, rough fat 14s 6d. Horsehair is 7}£d per lb. Hides: Tbe market was very strong and last sale-prices were fully maintained. We quote:—Ox bides s&d to Q%di, cow 5d to 5%d, cut and slippy hides 4}£d .to 5%d, calf skins b¥ 2 a to 7%d. The next sa'e will be held on February 16, 1906. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Wellington, report:—We held our fortnightly sale, of wool, skins, and hides, on Friday last. Wool—Catalogue comprised principally bag lots only. We quote as follows! Crossbred fleece, 7%dto 9d; lambs, B%d; pieces and orutohings 4%d to dead wool, s>£d t0,7%d; looks, 3>£d to 4%d. Sheepskins—Prices were firm at last sale rates. We quotp: Half bred and half bred merino, upto9J£d; good- crosbred, to 9d; lamba, to 9d; dead, 7d to 7%d; pelts, from 2s 6d to 3s 7d; broken and damaged pelts, Is to Is lOd; inferior and broken skins. 6d to 7%d; stragglers, 5%d *,o 7%d. Hides—Prices were a shade higher than last sale rates. We quote as follows: Medium ox, 5%d to 6d; inferior ox, 5d to out and slippy ox, 5%dt05 5-8 d; medium oows, 5%d to 6 1 inferior oows, sJ£dtos%d; out and slippy cows, 4%d to calf-skins, no good lines offering; medium, 6)£dto inferior, 5%d to 6 calfskins, slippy, 5d to TallowIn casks, from 18s to 21s 3d. Horse hides, realised 6s.
HOME MARKETS.
•Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd, bare reoeived the following cablegrams from their London offloe dated Ist instant:— Wool sales closed firm and active with brisk competition. Merino wools—Prices are on a par with closing rates of last sories. Fine crossbred wools—Any change in price is in favour of sellers. Medium crossbred woolsPrices are on a par with closing rates of last series. Coarse crossbred W0"1 —Prices are on the average 5 per cent. lowerthan the closing rates of last series. Out of the net quantity available for sale, some 77,000 baJes have been sold for Home consumption, 78,000 bales for the Continent, 5,0U0 bales for America, leavfug 4,000 bales to be carried forward to nexi; series. Australian Jamb, prime 32-401bs 3%d ditto fair average quality 3%d ; seconds, market very dull owing to heavy ac cumulations of stocks, the market for lamb very dull owing to lack of demand and decrease in prices has not improved the demand. Less demand for mutton. We are selling our consignments steadily, without pressing them. Poor demand for beef. Arrivals from River Plate are likely to be heavy for some time.
We quote: New Zealand crossbred Jamb, Canterbury, heavy, 3%d ; ditto, North Island, heavy, quotation nominal. New Zealaud crossbred mutton, Canterbury, heavy, 3%d; North Island.3 %d.- Prime oxbeef, fores 2%d, hinds 3d. Fringe lamb, Canterbury, light, 4d; North Island light, quotation nominal. Mutton, Canterbury, light, weights, North Island mutton, light, 3%d. Tallow market dull with downward tendency. Cutter-—Mar-ket very weak. Copenhagen official quotation, 4 kroner lower (about 4s Gd) per cwt. The future is difficult, to forecast. Total imports of butter into the United Kingdom for the week eudiug 27th January amounted to 90,000 cwt, as compared with 95,000 cwt for the corresponding period of last year. ' More demand for unsalted than salted.
