MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
:MASTERTON— 'VBDNESDAy. (Before Mr W. P. James, S.M.) Drunkenness.—A first offender ww fined ss, in default 24 hoars' imprisonment, for having been drunk. For a similar offence Alexander Mathieson, a second offender, was fined £3, iu default days' imprisonmet. Breach of Railway Regulations.— William Henry Waterson, who failad to appear, waa charged with a breach of the railway regulations by refusing to pay the proper fare. Guard Diamond deposed that on December 27th defendant travelled on the train from Pahiatua to Carterton. He had a second-class ticket and travelled in a first-class carriage as far as Masterton, though there was plenty of second-class accommodation. Witness asked defondant to pay the difference in the fare, la Bd, but he refused. A fine of 5n was imposed, with 19s costs, and defendant was ordered to pay Is Bd, the difference between the flrst and second class tare.
