FIRE BRIGADES' CONFERENCE.
NELSON, January 29,
The visiting delegates were welcomed by the Mayor and the Member for Nelson. In the comoetition conditions rule No. 12 was altered, making provision for protests. Jt was resolved to appoint a special committee to select events to count for the high pressure and manual competitions. A banquet is being held, to-night. v LATER. Tha Fire Brigades' Conference opened, to day. The delegates were welcomed by the Mayor and Mr Graham, Member for the City. Captain Twomey, of Lyttelton, presided. The report showed a credit balance of £l5B. Regret is expressed that uo Fire Brigades Bill has yet been placed oh the Statute Book improving the status of Brigades, but the report suggests that a more determined effort should be / made this year. One of the chief difficulties had been the apathy of Brigades, which had taken no steps to invoke the assistance of legislators, who were not in touch with the objects of the Association.
