REAL OPINION OF THE LIBERALS. MR HALDANE WAS NEVER IN OPPOSITION. Received January 24, 10 p.m. LONDON, January 24. Mr R. B. Haldane, Secretary of State for the War Department, speaking at Drem, Haddirigtonsnire, said that be never was an extreme opponent of Chinese labour. "If the Transvaal wish for the Chinese," said tho speaker, "we will wash our hands of the affair."
