MACK'S PICTURES.
The large crowd that witnessed the opening performance of the season of Mack's Pictures in the Town Hall, last evening, was distinctly a holiday one. That all were out for a night's eujoymeut was easily discernible by the enthusiasm displayed and the applause that followed each picture shown. The programme set forth by the management was oue befitting the oooasion, and if the change of programme that' ia promised for this evening follows on similar line 9, it is worthy of another full house. The programme of bioscopio pictures was a happy variety to suit all tastes, and tho number of humorous pictures thrown on the sheet showed that the juvenile oorfcion of tho house wore well catered for. Naturally, tho picture that "brought down the house" was the one depicting the football matoh between New Zealand and Northumberland. Prior to the matoh itself several sliding pictures were shown. Those were Gallaher, tho New Zealand |oaptain, formation of the scrum, Wallace converting a try in the Devon match, line-out and two forward rushes in the Devon match. The moving film showed the New Zealanders leaving their hotel, entering the arena, and the matoh itself, in which all the details of the game up to Hunter crossing the line were shown. Among the other many good films shown were a review of the troops at Aldershot, atrain tragedy, British troops under Colonel Younghusband in Afghanistan, H.M.S. Powerful berthing at Portsmouth, chase after an escaped lunatic, and many of a humorous nature. Professor W. E. Scott interested as well as pleased hia audience by.his skilful exhibition of inagio and ventriloquism. The company will make their final appearance this evening.
