BOMBARDMENT OF \ FACTORY. DISCOVERY OF EXPLOSIVES. i p DISPOSAL OF RELIEF FUNDS. Received January 9, 9.15 a.m. ( ST. PETERSBURG, Jan. 8. To avenge the murder aud mutilation of his dragoons at Riga, Colonel Maydel summoned the starving men and women besieged in the Provodnik factory to surrender the murderers or be bombarded. The ultimatum was declined, and a bombardment followed, in which a hundred were killed. Others were killed by volleys while trying to escape. F.-rty men were imprisoned, and await hauginc. unless the murderers are surrendered. Received January 9, 9.24 a.m. A fourth depot of dynamite and bombs nas been discovered in St. Petersburg. German contributors to the fund for the relief of the Jews at Odessa have been warned that a quarter of the money will be used to arm the Social Revolutionary Association, and to manufacture bombs. THE MANCHURIAN ARMY. FEARS OF MUTINY. Received January 9, 9.35 p.m. ST. PETERSBURG, Jan. 9. The Manchurian Army is described as]being on the verge of mutiny. They threaten; to pillage and burn Harbin, unless they J are repatriated quickly. The soldiers believe that the Ozar is dividing the land among the people, and they will lose their share. THE GOVERNMENT EXPLAINS. Received January 9, 9.35 p.m. ST. PETERSBURG Jan. 9. Combatting the attacks of hostile Russian journals the Government state that they only made arrests with the object of preventing attacks upon peaceable persons. They were surprised to discover quantities of arms and explosives sufficient to kill thousands and destroy whole cities. They denied that the troops acted barbarously. They admitted that they took strong measures owing to the inhuman conduct of the insurgents, and.they are confident that the nation approves the behaviour of the troops.
