THE HEAT WAVE. Received January 8, 9.28 a.m. SYDNEY, January 8. Great boat is reported inland. Many places register from 100 to 117 degrees in -the shade. At Broken Hill, where the thermometer showed 113 degrees, four deaths from heat apoplexy have occurred, and there is much sickness. There are indications of a change to cooler weather. Received January 9, 12.5 a.m. The heat wave has been succeeded by cool showery weather. Yesterday Carinda recorded 112 and Brewarrina 120 ju the shade. ADELAIDE, January 8. The thermometer recorded 113 degrees on Saturday, and 110 yesterday. Many persons were prostrated, and several more deaths are reported due to the heat. Ice carts plied all yesterday. THE LINDFOUS WILL CASE. Received Jrnuary 8, 11.12 p.m. SYDNEY, January 8. The girl Reimer, further crossexamined, admitted that she new that the will was a forgery when they were negotiating for a loan to cover the expenses for contesing it in the New Zeaalnd courts. She objected to going into the witness box in New Zealand and swearing lies, but JBurcher her that probably she would not be required to go into the box. She was engaged with Captain Lindfors for five years. NEW LIQUOR ACT. Received January 9, 1.2 a.m. SYDNEY, January 8. The first Sunday under the new Liquor Act showed a noticeable decrease in arrests for drunkenness. With very few exceptions the law was strictly observed. ALLEGED MURDER. Received January 9, 1.2 a.m. SYDNEY, January 9. Annie Johnston has been committed for trial on a charge of the wilful murder of Harry Diamond, a prominent athlete, and brother of the well-known cricketer, by administering an overdose of morphia. They visited several hotels together: subsequently Diamond was found unconscious in the street, and he died later. Johnston was addicted to morphia, and a quantity was found in her possession. THE BOMB OUTRAGE. Received January 8, 11.3 p.m. MELBOURiNE, Jan. 8. The Government have offered .£SOO reward for the discovery of the perpetrators of the bomb outrage at Detectirve O'Donneil's residenoe.
