LAND BOARD.

The Wellington Land Board met on 'Thursday. Present —Messrs J. Strauchon (Commissioner), J. Stevens, M.H.R., A. Reese, T. H. Robinson and -J. Dawson. TRANSFERS AND SUB-LEASES, Transfers of land in districts nanrnd were approved as follows: — P. J. O'Dowd to J. J. Halliday (Mount Cerberus); Naylor and Hewitt to W. E. K. Burling lAobanga); G. il. Styles, to himself and L. Stjles (Aohangal; C. Lunfc to P. Lunt (Mount Cerberus); J. D. Andrews to M. Ferrick (Mount Cerberus); G. and J. Minchin to F. J. Reid jj(Mangahao); M. C. Dnrvill to J. Knox (Mangabao); J. Montgomery to T. B. and L. Dwan (Makuri): W. Dunning to T. B. and L. Dwan (Makuri); M. M. Olsen to 11. Wesllako (Makuri); B. Ilislop to 'l'. Delabnnty (Makuri). C. G. Patchott applied to transfer secsion G, block. 8, Puketoi, to John Darlington, jnr. H. P. Hansen asked that transfer should bo stopped as lio had a claim on the section for bushfelling.—Matter deferred until next meeting. Transfer ol' section 2, block 19, Mangahao, to W« Welch, under the powers of his mortgage, was approved. The sub-letting of the soction to A. M. Blake was also approved, provided Mr Welch or the Bub-!c.' ;:Go resides on the land. All dealings under the sub-lease to be under the control of the Board. J. Wright's application to transfer section 14. block, 15 Makiiri, to F. N. Whitmore was approved, subject to the latter residing on this or his other holding. Approval was to J. E. Cox, senr., sub-letting part of section 12, block 4, Tararua, to A. Quinlan and John Poppelwell for one year, at a rental of £2O, with tramway right over the whole section. MISCELLANEOUS. A letter was received from tho Chief Engineer, Roads Department, regarding tho proposed cio3iug uf the occupation road to section 48, Hastwell Village Settlement.—Resolved to point out that as part of Mr Modsen's buildings and orchard, etc., are on this road, he is liable to interruption by others, and the Board strongly recommends that the road bo closed, and added to Mr Modsen's preaent leasehold, bo that he might obtain a proper title to the ground and his improvements. It was decided in committee, and confirmed in open meeting afterwards, that if any selectors wish to transfer their holdings without payment of the whole of the rental conceded in full, the Board will join in stafcine a case in terms of section 55, Land Act, 1892, to ascertain whether the whole of the rental has to be paid in full or not.. Approval was given to the erection of a temporary slaughter-yard oa M. Clarkin's section 3, block 2, Hunua, provided no nuisance is created thereby. It was resolved to pay the sum of £2 2s received for improvements effected on section 148 a, Makuri Village Settlement, to Mrs M. W. Ilislop, who surrendered the section for sale to the Makuri Co-operative Dairy Company for a factory site. R. Riddiford and the trustees and executors in the estate of the late John Tully made separate applications to iie allowed to select the homestead section in Tablelands Estate without competition.—Resolved to postpone consideration un til the Supreme Couit has removed the injunction against the Board dealing with the section. Decided to deduct £9 5s 9d from amount received for improvements on secdon 1, Upper for back rental, etc., due to the Crown, and to pay the balance (£4 10s 3d) to the iate selector. Resolved to recommend that the Ngaawa-purua forest reserve bo fenced in, and that the estimated amuunt (£160) be supplied for that purpose. ' A report was received from the ranger, on J. Holland's application, for about 200 acres of additional land adjoining his present holding in the North-east Puketoi block—Decided to recommend the extension or area. The Commissioner submitted a summary of 242 rangers' reports, showing that 207 selectors had complied with the regulations, and that 35 where defaulters.—■ Decided to call on the latter for the usual explanation.
