"FAKED BUTTER."

A SERIOUS DANGER, i CHRISTCHURCH, January 4. Mr John Holmes, late Trade Commissioner to tbe colony, who arrived in Chrisichuroh to-day, stated that if the practice of ''faking" New Zealand butter in Eagland was not stopped our permanent market wouid be jeopardised. At present cocoanut oil, also trargarine, tallow and other commodities, were being mixed with New Zealand butter, which was then re-packed and sold under the original brands. As.much as 25 per cent increased weight had been thereby secured.
