THE TARIFF COMMISSION.
THE SILK INDUSTRY. Reoieved January 4, 9.32 a.m. LONDON, January 3. The Tariff Commission in summarising the evidencs on the silk industry, states that manufacturers believe preference with Australia would be more beneficial than a reduction of the foreign import duties. The suggestions for a reduction of the Australian tariff range from oomple'te freedom in trade to a reduction from the present rates of 25 to 10 per cent, on madeup scarves, etc. .
