The Melbourne Journal nf Commerce, in its last issue, referring to Australia's recovery, says:—"in the year 1892 the advances in Australasia exceeded the deposits by over 31 - millions, whereas in Juno last the deposits exceeded the advances by 14% millions. Thus the banking situation in Australasia is about 45 !4 millions better to-day than it was fourteen years ago. The recovery has been alow and painful, but it has been substantial. The prosceots for the coming season are by the most cautious experts said to be very bright. It is estimated that there are over 65 million sbeep now in the Commonwealth, as compared with 53)4 millions in 1902, and that there will be at least eight millions more sheep to shear in 1905-6 than in the year whioh has just closed.
