EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.
CONFERENCE AT INVERCAR--1 GILU INVEROARGILL, Jan. 3. In his presidential address before the Educational Institute to-day, President Gill (Wellington) dealt most fully with the necessity of a system for abolishing pupil teachers, and the Conference passed a resolution to that effect. The following remits were adopted, others having been negatived or withdrawn:— Wanganui— That the Department be. asked to frame a regulation so that head teachers shall thold promotion examinations at the end of the calendar year. Otago—That the Institute again urge the necessity for a Council of Education for the colony. Wanganui— That the Inspectorate be centralised. Otago—That the oupil teacher system should be abolished. North Canterbury—That instrcutions defining the syllabus be issued to inspectors.
