MASTERTON MOUNTED RIFLES.
Word was received in Masterton last night that the Masfcertoq Mounted Kifles, who are holding an encampment at Castlepoint, arrived at their destination at 12 o'clock yesterday. The corps left Masterton on Sunday at 10.30 o'clock, and stayed at Mr 5. E. Msunsell's residence at Tinui that night. They were hospitably entertained by Mr Maunsell. They commenced their journey next morning, and had a trying experience during the last two miles owing to the heavy gale of wind blowing. The corps nad to "double bank" the teams to pull the baggage over the beaoh. One of the brakes went over an embankment as the result of the gale, but was stopped from going to' the bottom by a fence. After considerable trouble the Vehicle was got on to the road again. The members to the number of about thirty are now comfortably encamped. Oil Thursday they will bold military sports. Included in the events are a four furlongs horse race for troopers and a six furlongs open race. There will be a number of military events, and shooting competitions will also be held, there being £ls prize money to be shot for*
