RESIGNATION OF MR. R. C. MAJOR.
APPOINTED TOWN CLERK AT ASHBURTON. Mr. R. C. Major, who has been Town Clerk for the past three and a half years in the Upper Hutt, was last week appointed to a similar position at Ashburton out of 50 applicants. During his term of office at Upper Hutt, Mr. Major has been looked upon as an ideal officer and will be greatly missed by all. When Mr. Major took over office in 1933, the bank overdraft was in the vicinity of £BOOO. The overdraft at the present time is now only £286. It has been a strenuous time for him as among other things he was in the midst of the depression. Mr. Major is a member of the Executive of the Town Clerk's Association of New Zealand and has done good work for them during the past year. Before coming to Upper Hutt Mr. Major was assistant Town Clerk at Stratford to Mr. Skoglund for eight years, prior to which he was for four years with the Loan and Mercantile's Stratford branch. Mr. Major -was appointed to the Upper Hutt Borough out of about 90 applicants. The "Weekly Review" wishes Mr. and Mrs. Major and family happiness and prosperity in their new sphere.
