HIBERNIAN SOCIETY.
A pleasant function was held by the local Branch (St. Joseph's) of the Hibernian Society, when members from Lower Hutt and Petone met for the purpose of the first Annual Holy Communion which took place in St. Joseph's Church, Upper Hutt, on Sunday morning, 20th September, at the 8 o'clock Mass, after which breakfast was served in the local R.S.A. Hall, at which Bro. Casey, the local President, presided. After the President had welcomed the visitors, among whom were members of the District (Bro. Frude) and Provincial Council (Bro. Brown), a comprehensive toast list was honoured, at which some very fine speeches were delivered: "Hierarchy and Clergy," proposed by Bro. O'Shea (Petone), responded to by Rev. Father Brennan (Upper Hutt) ; "New Zealand District," proposed by Bro. Delaney (Upper Hutt) responded to by Bro. C. Frude (Lower Hutt); "Provincial Council," pi'oposed by Bro. Brown (Lower Hutt), responded to by Bro. Doorwood (Lower Hutt); "Visitors," proposed by Bro. O. Krohn (Upper Hutt), responded to by Bro. Posselt (Lower Hutt); last, but not least, "The Ladies," proposed by Bro. Hoffman (Lower Hutt), responded to by Sister P. Connelly (Upper Hutt). The duties of Marshal were carried out very efficiently both at the church and the hall by Bro. O. Krohn, P.P. (Upper Hutt). The catering arrangements were carried out by Mrs. Griffiths and her staff (Red Robin), and all praised the excellent repast, -which left nothing to be desired. The function concluded after Sister Krohn had taken photographs of the gathering.
