MEN'S HOCKEY.
The Upper Hutt "Warriors" Hockey Club was formed about seven -weeks ago. At its inauguration all the members were quite inexperienced, but under the coaching- of Mr. Jack Clarke, they are rapidly acquiring- skill and in every match they have so far played they have succeeded in scoring. Out of seven games played they lost"~three and won four. Their initial expenses have been very heavy and in order to supplement their funds they are holding a dance in the Majestic Theatre on Tuesday next. Hockey is perhaps making greater strides as a winter game than any other form of sport and should certainly be encouraged in this district. Last Saturday they were defeated by Karori (a strong team) by s—l.5 —1. The "Warriors" played a good game and kept their opponents busy.
RUGBY. ANOTHER WIN FOR JUNIORS. The Juniors defeated Athletic by 35 points to nil. A sensational try was scored by Morton -within a minute from the commencement of the game. Morton went over for a second try from a pass from Beng-e, to Hoey, who passed to Leckie, who passed to Morton. Hoey had a chance, but the A.thletic fullback saved the situation. From a scrum, Collins received from Skerten and went over. Athletic indulged in some passing- but could not cross the line. Andrews hooked the ball, Skerten passing to Beng-e, to Holcroft, the latter going over. 14—0 in Upper Hutt's favour. Douglas was seen to advantage, when he found the line inside Athletic's 25. Parsons and Jones scored tries, Douglas converting- both. Andrews, Wakelin and Benge also scored. RUGBY NOTES. Upper Hutt played well together. Andrews, Leckie, Hoey and Morton were seen to advantage. Skerten is a promising half, and showed that he is not afraid to go down to the ball. Beng-e at centre and the two wings, Collins and Morton, all played good football. The third team scored heavily against St. Pat's Old Boys 40—3. The Fourths (23 0) and Fifths (15 6) continue on their winning- way. The Sevenths had a bye. Mr. Keegan and his committee must be pleased with the results so fax-. Jim Ross was among- the spectators at the junior game on Saturday. Jim was coach to the fourth grade for several years.
