In his other pictures, Warner Oland has coped with virtually every situation in the annals of crime, but in his new Fox mystery, "Charlie Chan's Secret," which comes to the Mayfair Theatre on Wednesday, June 3rd, the bland Chinese detective finally comes to grip with ghosts. Of course they are not actually ghosts, for 20th Century-Fox would hardly care to assert that ghosts do really exist. | These ghosts are the work of a ring of spiritualist fakers who wish to obstruct Chan in his search for fiendish murderer. In the course of the story, Chan exposes some of the little known tricks of spix-itualists. One is the concealed loud speaker through which "spirit music" is transmitted, and another is the use of violet rays and chemicals to make "ghost" faces appear in the dark. An all-star supporting- cast assists Oland in his latest fight against the forces of crime. UPPER HUTT MUSICAL AND DRAMATIC SOCIETY' (Inc.).
