UPPER HUTT SUB-CENTRE N.Z. RED CROSS SOCIETY.

The annual social of the above society was held in St. Hilda's Hall last week and as this is always a popular event there was a good attendance of members and friends. A fine programme of music, songs, elocution and dancing - items was presented and enjoyed by all. Those taking- part were:— Mrs. R. Bradley, Misses H. and E. Gor-i-ie, D. Prouse, Joyce Edwards, Hazel Jones, Jean Rimmer and Mr. F. Jackson. Dr. F. W. Kemp, President, presided and introduced the following speakers: Dr. Alex Gillies, President Wellington Centre; Major J. Abel, Dominion Chairman, and the Mayor, Mr. A. J. McCurdy. At the conclusion of the addresses, Dr. Gillies presented the awards to the following- successful stvidents:— Heme Nursing-: Misses G. Humphrey, B. Humphrey, E. Cornish, D. Edwards, F. Small, I. Welling-ton, J. Heiford, M. Dell. First Aid - Misses B. Humphrey, G. Humphrey, E. Cornish, D. Edwards, B. Gibbs, J. Heiford, N. Rvifford, A. Neighbours, Messrs. L. Purser and G. Morrell. Supper was served and dancing- concluded a pleasant evening.
