AUSTRALIAN ITEMS.
Melbourne, January 14. The Ministers are to proceed in the steamer "Victoria to-morrow for a week's trip. They will probably visit Tasmania. Mary Sheers has been committed for trial on the charge of unskilful traotment in a case of child-birth in connection with the Hospital. It has been resolved to elect honorory medical officers for five years only, for the Melbourne Hospital. M.Leplatner, wine and spirit merchant, has failed for £40,000; £26,000 is secured. A meeting of his creditors will be held next week. Mr. Burke, formerly member for Kilmore, died this morning. Extensive gold robberies at Ballarat have been discovered. Two men have been arrested. Tee Government have sent relief to the men supposed to be on Logan's Group. Blondin carried Mr* Hill, the musical conductor, over a rope at the Opera House last night.
Sydney, January 16. A frightful outrage was perpetrated at Tamworth on the 9th. Emma Fielder, the victim, lived alone. On Saturday a man unknown rode up to her door and seized the woman, violated her, and rode off. He has not been captured yet.
