Christmas and the Ne*w Year have both pwsecl, and with the exception of a few shower*, which have added to the good looks of the crops, we have had splendid weather for pleasure-seekers. Oats and other grain are looking very well, although at one time it wu feared the cropa would be very bad. There was not much in the way of sports as a whole. Mr. Davidson, of the Waikaia Hotel, held races and sports at his grounds on Christmas Day, at which there was a good attendance. A local horse called Curico took the best race, and is fancied for the ensuing races here, which take place on March 4th and sth, notice of which you no doubt will have had. A publican of years' standing here-e-John Utting — was fined one shilling and costs for illegally selling grog on the 28th December ; but it-is understood the matter is not ended. It appears his license was paid to the end of the year, but under the nctr Act the Magistrate ruled he was selling illegally. On the 28th the Oddfellows held a pic-nic at Messrs.
