WAITAHUNA. {From a Correspondent.)
The annual meeting for the election of a School Committee for the ensuing year was held in the School House on January 11th. .Mr. Ferris in the chair. The secretary in his report stated that the Government had consented to build a new schoolhouse, and had authorised the Committee to call for tenders. They had done so, and had accepted the tender of Mr. F. Moyle, «übject to the approval of the Education Board, whose decision would shortly be received. Operations would then be commenced at speedily as possible in order to take advantage of the fine weather. He was unable to furnish them jpith the annual returns of the •chool, owing to the teacher having neglected to supply the committee with them before lie left for the midsummer holidays. He could otdy, therefore, shew theamount of fees j for the nine months ending October 19th, I being £88 18s «d, of which £68 2s 7d had been received ; leaving a balance still due for the nine months of £20 16s 2d. For the reaion above stated he was unable to shew the number of scholars attending. The financial statement showed liabilities to the amount of £4 or £5. The report of the Secretary and Treasurer was adopted by the meeting. Some strong expressions of opinion were evoked at the conduct of the teacher in neglecting to supply the Committee with the annual return before ho left the district for the holidays. The following gentlemen were elected as the committee for the ensuing year : — Messrs. M'Taggart, Bushe, Cairns, W. Auld, Ferris, Moggath, Hansen, P. Cook, and Craven. At a Committee meeting held directly after the public meeting, the following appointments were made, — J. Moggath, (Secretary ; J. Ferrif (Chairman.)
